Michael LeBlanc is a Toronto-born artist who began his career painting dark exaggerated portraits and landscapes. Predominately self-taught, LeBlanc attended the Ontario College of Art and Design for a short period from 2002 to 2003; becoming discouraged, he decided to switched focus and reevaluate his artistic goals. Throughout his career he has continually reevaluated his goals, each time coming back to his art with a new, burning desire to create what is in his head. He eventually ventured into the world of abstract art, which reinvented his artistic process. LeBlanc has been perfecting his chaotic process over the course of the last six years. LeBlanc’s paintings are wonderfully deep and textured, involving several conflicting layers that draw in the viewer and captivate. He attempts to imply more conceptual images in his abstract pieces, often leaving the viewer asking if what they are seeing is intended. Recently, he has started to incorporate elements of portraiture into his abstract works. Leblanc believes any piece of art can be seen as a masterpiece and that every viewer will take away something different from each unique piece.
